Behind our group’s vision lies a passion to positively impact our environment, employees and community.

Because we know - without our principles - we wouldn’t be able to deliver economic, social and environmental benefits to all stakeholders, and we wouldn’t be upholding our responsibility as a leader in the industry.

Caring for our environment

Award winning sustainability programme

We’re incredibly proud to announce that our Silentnight brand has won the prestigious 2017 Sustainability Award by the Furniture Markers’ Company.

90% of generated waste recycled

We recycle an incredible 90% of the 4,506T of waste produced across our sites in Aspatria and Barnoldswick, for a more efficient, resourceful and responsible manufacturing process.

To ensure we meet our objectives and divert waste from landfills, all of our wood, foam quilt, foam-free quilt, paper and card, polythene film and metal waste go to local and national recycling companies.

We also collect end-of-life mattresses, divan bases and headboards from consumers at point of delivery, before arranging the environmentally-friendly disposal of these products.

Our environmental management systems get independently audited annually to ensure we’re constantly evaluating and improving our process.

Since 2009, our Aspatria site alone has seen recycled waste improve by 73%, leading to £100k saved per yearon landfill disposal.

Thousands set to be saved by reducing our carbon footprint

We comply with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) - a government-led energy assessment scheme that requires us to audit the energy-use on all of our buildings to improve external conditions for people and wildlife.

This helps us identify cost-effective energy-saving opportunities, so not only do we maximise returns for our business by cutting energy consumption, but we also significantly reduce our carbon footprint.

Driving positive change - 100,000 litres of diesel saved on the road every year

Through fleet management tool Job Watch - which increases efficiency, empowers our drivers and improves safety - we will save an incredible 100,000 litres of diesel per year.

It also allows us to monitor driver behaviour to improve route planning and increase road safety and awareness for themselves and other drivers.

In total, each driver has been able to complete 4 extra jobs per week in 10 fewer hours per-month, while reducing failed jobs by 50%.

Developing a sustainable future

Future-proofing our environment by sourcing sustainable materials

We’re the first bed company to be accredited under the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP) – which aims to improve the furniture industry’s sustainability credentials.

When you buy from a Silentnight Group brand, you can do so in the complete confidence that the materials used have been replenished in an environmentally-friendly way.

From tree to bed and back again

The Silentnight Group has also officially been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®).

This ensures that the timber or fibre used in the divans and headboards comes from responsible source, where trees harvested are replaced or allowed to regenrate naturally. Looking after the planet is the responsibility of us all, and we're proud to play our part.

Responsible and safe chemical-use

All the materials we use conform to Oeko-Tex and REACH testing – independent research institutes that ensure the chemicals we use are safe to both humans and the environment.

Creating fresher, cleaner and more hygienic sleeping environments

Sensitivity to dust mite allergens can not only affect a person’s sleep, but also their health.

Purotex is a 100% natural probiotic that we apply to our mattresses to combat dust mite allergen and create a fresher, cleaner sleeping environment.

Tests shown that within just two weeks Purotex had cleaned up to 89% of dust mite allergen, considerably reducing the risk of allergic reactions in the process.

Nurturing the talent of tomorrow

We guarantee all of our apprentices a full time position upon successful completion of their apprenticeship in areas such as: manufacturing, junior management, warehousing & storage, human resources, IT, and finance.

Helping dreams come true

Dreams Come True – a national children’s charity – is the official charity partner of Silentnight. Their mission is to bring joy to terminally and seriously ill children by making their dreams come true.

Over the last 25 years they’ve brought joy to more than 5,000 children, as well as their friends, families and carers.

In 2014, two volunteers ran the 26.2 mile Virgin London marathon clad in the iconic ensemble of Hippo and Duck – the Silentnight mascots – to raise money for the charity.

Supporting sporting ambitions

Silentnight sponsor young UK cyclist Amy Gornall, who’s based in Barnoldswick – home of Silentnight HQ.

Amy cycles professionally with Podium Ambition Pro Cycling - a UCI Women’s Team - so she can compete in all the major women’s road races internationally.

As part of the sponsorship, Amy will receive financial aid to support her training costs, including a brand new Silentnight bed – linking the importance a good night’s sleep has to rest and recovery in supporting sporting success.
