Silentnight Group Limited is one of the UK's foremost suppliers of Beds. The Group's main activities include wood machining, assembly, upholstery, and the delivery of products directly to customers in the UK and ROI. We also import raw materials and some finished products. This policy applies equally to our suppliers and ourselves.
In today’s global economy the responsibilities of a business extend far beyond the traditional boundaries. The Board at Silentnight Group recognises its corporate responsibilities and has introduced this policy to supplement its existing environmental policy. Our customers, staff and other stakeholders rightly expect us to adopt a responsible attitude towards social and ethical issues. This means ensuring that our factories, and those of our suppliers, operate to the highest standards, accepting responsibility for our suppliers and using our influence to make sure that our supply chain meets our criteria.
Specifically, this means that customers can purchase our products safe in the knowledge that they have been produced by businesses that meet the following code of practice:
Health & Safety - There shall be a safe and healthy working environment with adequate steps taken to prevent accidents. All facilities shall, as a minimum, comply with the H&S legislation applicable in the country of operation. Appropriate health & safety training shall be given to all workers.
Working Hours - Employee working hours must comply with national laws but never exceed 48 hours per week on a regular basis. Overtime should never exceed 12 hours per week on a regular basis. There shall always be at least an average of one day off in every seven.
Wages - Wages paid must always meet legal and national standards and should be sufficient to meet basic needs and provide some discretionary income.
Discrimination - There shall be no discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, or political affiliation.
Discipline - There shall be no corporal punishment, no physical, sexual or verbal abuse and all forms of mental or physical coercion shall be prohibited.
Child Labour - No workers under the age of 15 are allowed and those under 18 shall not be employed at night or in hazardous conditions.
Forced Labour - There shall be no forced, prison or bondage labour and workers shall not be required to lodge deposits or identity papers with their employers.
Local Community Relations - Silentnight Group is a major employer in the Barnoldswick, Batley, and Aspatria areas and is an integral part of these communities. The Company is, therefore, committed to working with the local community, and will, where possible, support projects which are consistent with its Brand and Corporate values. In addition, the Company understands that the location of some of its sites in residential areas can present particular problems to its neighbours, but will attempt to reduce any negative impact it may have on the local environment and its people.
